Summary: SO-LO uses your location only when you're actively discovering people nearby. We never sell your data. We never store your exact location permanently. You control what you share.
1. Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect your email address, display name, and optional profile photo. If you sign up with Apple or Google, we receive only the information you authorize.
Profile Information
You may optionally provide interests, sub-interests, a bio, and gallery photos. This information is visible to other users based on your privacy settings and active mode.
Location Data
SO-LO uses your device's location to connect you with nearby users and events. Key points:
Location is only accessed when you are actively using discovery features
We do not store your precise location history on our servers
Location data is used transiently for proximity calculations
You can revoke location access at any time in your device settings
Usage Data
We collect anonymized usage data including app interactions, crash reports, and performance metrics to improve the app experience. This data cannot be used to identify you personally.
Messages
Messages sent within SO-LO's chat feature are stored on our servers to deliver them to other users. Chat sessions are temporary and expire after a set period.
2. How We Use Your Information
Proximity Discovery: To show you nearby users, events, and venues based on your current location and selected intents.
Matching: To facilitate mutual connections ("collisions") between users with compatible intents and interests.
Communication: To enable temporary chat sessions between matched users.
Safety: To enforce our community guidelines, respond to reports, and prevent abuse.
Improvements: To analyze usage patterns (anonymized) and improve app features.
Notifications: To send you relevant notifications about matches, messages, and events (with your permission).
3. Information Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share data only in these limited circumstances:
Other Users: Your profile name, photo, interests, and intent are visible to nearby users during active discovery sessions. Your exact location is never shared.
Service Providers: We use Supabase for database hosting and authentication, Sentry for crash reporting, Mixpanel for anonymized analytics, and RevenueCat for subscription management. These providers are bound by data protection agreements.
Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or to protect the safety of our users.
4. Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored on secure servers provided by Supabase (hosted on AWS). We implement row-level security policies to ensure users can only access their own data. All data in transit is encrypted via TLS. Chat messages are encrypted at rest using AES-256.
5. Your Rights & Controls
Access: View all your personal data in your Profile and Settings screens.
Correction: Edit your profile information at any time.
Deletion: Permanently delete your account and all associated data from Settings → Delete Account. This action is irreversible.
Location: Revoke location permissions at any time in your device settings.
Notifications: Manage notification preferences in Settings.
Data Export: Premium subscribers can export their match history.
6. Children's Privacy
SO-LO is not intended for users under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If we learn that we have collected data from a user under 18, we will promptly delete their account and associated data.
7. Third-Party Services
SO-LO integrates with the following third-party services:
Supabase: Authentication and database hosting
Apple Sign-In / Google Sign-In: Optional authentication providers
RevenueCat: Subscription and in-app purchase management
Stripe: Marketplace and payment processing
Sentry: Crash reporting and error monitoring
Mixpanel: Anonymized usage analytics
Sightengine: Photo content moderation
Expo: App build and update infrastructure
Each third-party service has its own privacy policy governing their use of your data.
8. Data Retention
Active accounts: Data retained while your account is active.
Expired chat sessions: Messages are deleted after the session expiration period.
Deleted accounts: All personal data is permanently deleted within 30 days of account deletion.
Anonymized analytics: May be retained indefinitely as they cannot identify individuals.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through the app or via email. Continued use of SO-LO after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
